Within modern healthcare quality assurance and process support in the daily work and applied routines becomes more and more important. In many cases the processes, and thereby the care provided, is based on established treatment protocols and guidelines. Hjärtjournalen (The Heart Record) is an IT-solution that supports and secures the quality in the daily clinical work at the cardiology department, and also the information exchange between the various disciplines involved in the departments care process. Hjärtjournalen is initiated as an integral part of the daily work flow as soon as a patient is admitted to the cardiology unit, and it follows the patient care all the way until the final care report is written and signed off. It continuously interacts with other IT-solutions, like the hospital wide electronic patient record, and may be looked upon as a production system for the cardiology department acting as an active layer between the cardiology user with its specific needs and other supporting systems.
